After breaking his leg in a football game, 2-sport athlete Blake Fielden made his return to football and baseball.
Blake Fielden is one of my good friends and teammates. He is an incredible leader, player, and person, and one of the most hard-working and dedicated individuals I've ever met. In our sophomore season, we had a JV football game together vs Eagles Landing Christian Academy on September 23rd 2021. Blake was our starting running back and a team captain.
In the first quarter, after being tackled the wrong way, Blake broke both his tibia and fibula in his right leg. He had to be carried off of the field in a stretcher as he was taken to the hospital. Our teammates and coaches were devastated as we watched the ambulance leave the field.
Even while injured, Blake remained a big part of the team helping out at practices and on game days. He became an inspiration to many of his teammates. Some of them, including me, wrote his number, 42, on their wrists before games.
Some people never come back from such a serious leg injury, but after rigorous rehabbing Blake Fielden was ready for the baseball season just 4 months later. One of our coaches stated “Blake, I was there on the day of your injury to see how far you’ve gone is just a testament to your work ethic. Glad you’re back and I look forward to the rest of the year”. He would go on to make the varsity baseball team as a sophomore.
In the fall of the next year, Blake was ready to make his comeback on the field. He would finish the season with 4 total touchdowns. 2 rushing, 1 receiving and 1 on special teams.
Now, Blake and I are entering our senior season of football. Blake still plays with the metal rod and screws in his leg he got from surgery. He continues to compete everyday on the field and remains a leader on the team, he was just recently voted by our teammates to be a captain.
